The men wore a Zhiju “直裾”, It belongs to a kind of shenyi“深衣”, and the women wore a waist-length skirt, a kind of Yi shang “衣裳”.
The Zhiju of the Han Dynasty could be worn by both men and women. This kind of dress appeared as early as in the Western Han Dynasty, but it could not be used as a formal dress. The reason is that ancient trousers are not crotch, only two legs to the knee, with a belt at the waist. The crotch-less trousers were worn underneath and were exposed if not covered by a coat, which was considered irreverent at the time. So wear Qujushenyi“曲裾深衣”.caption
